{"id":573,"date":"2006-11-29T01:43:37","date_gmt":"2006-11-29T01:43:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/walking-ixus.net\/blog\/?p=573"},"modified":"2006-11-29T01:43:37","modified_gmt":"2006-11-29T01:43:37","slug":"taipei_101_its_really_tall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/walking-ixus.net\/blog\/taipei_101_its_really_tall\/","title":{"rendered":"Taipei 101, it&#8217;s really tall!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back in August, I visited the <a href=\"archives\/2006\/08\/petronas_towers.html\">Petronas Towers <\/a>which was the tallest building in the world prior to the completion of Taipei 101 in 2004.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/taipei10102.html\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/taipei10102.html','popup','width=480,height=640,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/taipei10102-thumb.jpg?resize=240%2C320\" width=\"240\" height=\"320\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em>It doesn&#8217;t look tall but it really is! <\/em><br \/>\nUnlike Petronas, which only takes you up to the skybridge midway up, Taipei 101 takes you up to the 89th floor which is closer to the top.  89 stories is hella high!  From that height, everything looks like small landscape models.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/taipei101view.html\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/taipei101view.html','popup','width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/taipei101view-thumb.jpg?resize=320%2C240\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em>People live down there&#8230;<\/em><br \/>\nThere&#8217;s also a recently opened outdoor observation deck on the 91st floor.  When I went up there, it was hella windy and there was a storm moving in.  But it was neat to be up that high and outside.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/taipei10101.html\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/taipei10101.html','popup','width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/taipei10101-thumb.jpg?resize=320%2C240\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em>Floors 92-101 are for VIP events.  Not VI yet so couldn&#8217;t go up&#8230;<\/em><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/taipei101rules.html\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/taipei101rules.html','popup','width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/taipei101rules-thumb.jpg?resize=320%2C240\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em>I thought Singapore had all the rules! <\/em><br \/>\nTaipei 101 also has the world&#8217;s fastest elevators which are pressurized because they get you to the top in under 40 seconds going 37.5 MPH.  If they weren&#8217;t pressurized, your ears would really pop.  And you&#8217;d probably get sick too&#8230;<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/taipei101lift.html\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/taipei101lift.html','popup','width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/taipei101lift-thumb.jpg?resize=320%2C240\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em>Everything you&#8217;ve ever wanted to know about fast elevators<\/em><br \/>\nLike Petronas, Taipei 101 has about six floors of mall at the base filled with high end stores, so you can spend a lot of time (and money) here.  The food court here is very good and the prices are decent.  One difference between these two landmarks is that going up to the Petronas skybridge is free and there&#8217;s no outdoor deck.  Taipei 101 charges NT$350 to the main observation deck and another NT$100 to go up to the outdoor deck.  But it was worth it!  From the observation deck, you get a commanding view of the entire city.
