{"id":487,"date":"2006-07-10T18:19:03","date_gmt":"2006-07-10T18:19:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/walking-ixus.net\/blog\/?p=487"},"modified":"2006-07-10T18:19:03","modified_gmt":"2006-07-10T18:19:03","slug":"my_la_cult_food_1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/walking-ixus.net\/blog\/my_la_cult_food_1\/","title":{"rendered":"My LA, Cult Food #1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I went back to University Park, (home of my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usc.edu\">alma mater<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uscband.com\/\">Greatest Marching Band in the History of the Universe<\/a>) Los Angeles during my last visit.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s changed a lot since I was a resident student here back in the day.  For one thing, they&#8217;re building a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usc.edu\/programs\/125\/event_calendar\/detail.html?id=856144\">new events center<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/fmsdevwin.usc.edu\/Projects\/projects\/galen_web_cam.htm\">across the street from campus<\/a>.  Big lah!  Used to have a parking lot there.<br \/>\nBut no worries, because there&#8217;s new structures being built!  But not everything is new and trendy.  The old traditional stuff is still here.  The 9-0.  Traddie&#8217;s on campus.  And Manny&#8217;s.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/chanos2.html\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/chanos2.html','popup','width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/chanos2-thumb.jpg?resize=320%2C240\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em>Um, it says Chano&#8217;s<\/em><br \/>\nOK, I don&#8217;t know why we always called it Manny&#8217;s when the name on the establishment, the signage, the drive thru and on our credit card bills always says &#8220;Chano&#8217;s&#8221;.  I really don&#8217;t remember where the name came from.  Can anyone refresh my memory as to why?<br \/>\n<s>Manny&#8217;s<\/s> Chano&#8217;s is a classy outdoorsy place in the vein of Tommy&#8217;s except Chano&#8217;s has outdoor seating.  You walk up to the front of the shack, order, wait and then when your food is ready, take it over here to eat.  There&#8217;s a good mix of people here, depending on what time of the day and year you are here.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/chanos3.html\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/chanos3.html','popup','width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/chanos3-thumb.jpg?resize=320%2C240\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em>Outdoor seating that Tommy&#8217;s dun have!<\/em><br \/>\nThis place holds a lot of memories for Trojans of all stripes.  Mostly of their &#8220;wake-up burrito&#8221; that to this day, I don&#8217;t know what it&#8217;s made of.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nNor do I WANT to know.  Ever.<\/strong><br \/>\nAll I do know is that it is effective in the &#8220;hangover cure&#8221; category.  I&#8217;ve been there late on weekend nights many times in the past eating here.  On other days, I&#8217;m here for lunch ordering a &#8220;<strong>machaca Burrito, sour cream and <em>mucho<\/em> hot sauce<\/strong>&#8220;, por favor.<br \/>\nA machaca is spicy shredded beef, scrambled egg and beans cooked on the griddle hot and then tossed into a waiting tortilla.  Then the hot sauce and sour cream (extras) are plopped on and then it&#8217;s wrapped up and handed over to you.  Mmmmm.  Hot mouthburning goodness!<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/chanos4.html\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/chanos4.html','popup','width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/chanos4-thumb.jpg?resize=320%2C240\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em>Ready to eat lah!
