{"id":476,"date":"2006-06-04T20:17:02","date_gmt":"2006-06-04T20:17:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/walking-ixus.net\/blog\/?p=476"},"modified":"2006-06-04T20:17:02","modified_gmt":"2006-06-04T20:17:02","slug":"oyaji","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/walking-ixus.net\/blog\/oyaji\/","title":{"rendered":"Oyaji"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An izukaya opened up in my &#8216;hood a few months back called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oyajirestaurant.com\/\">Oyaji<\/a>.<br \/>\nWell, not really &#8220;in my hood&#8221; as it&#8217;s about a mile as the crow flies.  Maybe in the other side of my &#8216;hood.  A 2 minute drive or a 20 minute stroll in the howling wind and cold that marks a San Francisco summer out here.<br \/>\nThe best way to describe an izukaya is a bar that serves beer and nihonshu and food that goes good with both.  So there&#8217;s all kinds of stuff, from ramen to a full sushi bar to yakitori and the like.  Menu <a href=\"http:\/\/menupix.com\/sf\/restaurants.php?id=100848#\">here<\/a>.<br \/>\nSchu called and wanted to eat.  I suggested Oyaji.  We went.  I ordered a starter of California Maki and Cha-Siu Ramen.  The sushi here is fresh made and the rolls were pretty good.  Purty too.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/oyajicarolls.html\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/oyajicarolls.html','popup','width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/oyajicarolls-thumb.jpg?resize=320%2C240\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em>Tastes as good as it looks<\/em><br \/>\nThey have an excellent selection of sake and shochu.  Not so much on the beer.  Although they did have the dark Asahi I drank a lot of last time I was in Tokyo.  Burp.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/asahidark.html\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/asahidark.html','popup','width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/asahidark-thumb.jpg?resize=320%2C240\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em>Necessities of modern life lor. <\/em><br \/>\nThe ramen arrived and the broth was flavorful, but not too heavy or too full of MSG.  The noodles were of the thick kind and were not overcooked.  Springy.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/oyajiramen1.html\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/oyajiramen1.html','popup','width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/oyajiramen1-thumb.jpg?resize=320%2C240\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em>Imagine, a nice bowl o&#8217; ramen close by my house! Waaaah! <\/em><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/oyajiramen3.html\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/oyajiramen3.html','popup','width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/oyajiramen3-thumb.jpg?resize=320%2C240\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em>Not overcooked, they&#8217;re springy! <\/em><br \/>\nSome minuses though.  The egg was unusually salty (maybe stored in soy sauce?) and the bowl didn&#8217;t come out as hot as it should have.  Nitpicking here though, because&#8230;<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/oyajiramen2.html\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/oyajiramen2.html','popup','width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/oyajiramen2-thumb.jpg?resize=320%2C240\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nthe cha-siu was tender and there was just enough fat to give it good taste without being gross with the fat on top.  Mmmmmm.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s best to walk here from the house though.
