Food courts here (and in most parts of Asia) dun have the stigma that food courts have back in the US (especially San Francisco).  There\u2019s no Panda Express here!  The food is cheap, safe, local and accessible. You exchange baht for vouchers of equivilent value.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/vouchers.html\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/vouchers.html','popup','width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/vouchers-thumb.jpg?resize=160%2C120\" width=\"160\" height=\"120\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nYou spend the vouchers at the stalls.  All prices are in increments of five so they dun have to worry about making change. Sue me.<br \/>\n<em>Cost: 50 baht + 15 baht for a Coke = 65 baht.<\/em><br \/>\nAfter the \u201cdeath march\u201d through old Bangkok (cuz of my known aversion to heat, humidity and sweat), we arrived near the Rama VIII bridge on the banks of the Chao Phraya.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/ramaviiibridge.html\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/ramaviiibridge.html','popup','width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/ramaviiibridge-thumb.jpg?resize=160%2C120\" width=\"160\" height=\"120\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThe Rama VIII bridge is a concrete cable-stayed design that has become a local landmark and is the northern boundary of the old city.  Kinda like what the bridge in Boston is supposed to be.  Death march entry comes later on.<br \/>\nWound up at a restaurant on the pier with fans above and catfish below.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/pierrestaurant.html\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/pierrestaurant.html','popup','width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/pierrestaurant-thumb.jpg?resize=160%2C120\" width=\"160\" height=\"120\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nOrdered lunch and beer.  This was a wonderful dish with crispy basil leaves, kinda like chicken chow fun, except I forgot what it\u2019s called in Thai.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/chickenchowfun.html\" onclick=\"window.open('http:\/\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/chickenchowfun.html','popup','width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.walking-ixus.net\/blog\/photos\/chickenchowfun-thumb.jpg?resize=160%2C120\" width=\"160\" height=\"120\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<em>Cost: 50 baht. <\/em><br \/>\nDinner was at a yupster expat \u201cfarang friendly\u201d place.  Means high price, VAT and Service Charge (grrrr). I ordered veggie curry and fish cake appitizers along with a Singha (BKK tip: meat dishes jack up the price, as does iced beverages, thx Duker!).
